About Us

Laurelwood Imports LLC is a familly owned and operated company based in Cary, North Carolina & Queensland, Australia. As importers of Fine Australian Wood Products, Laurelwood Imports LLC is run by Michael Zulpo (Mick) an Australian expatriate from Brisbane, Queensland. He lives in Cary with his American wife Aynsley. Mick's father, Peter still lives in Queensland, Australia and oversees the export operations. 

All of our products are hand-made in Australia, by Australians from 100% Australian materials.  The Australian Made symbol you see below is an Australian Government seal verifying the origin of our products. This symbol is attached to every product we make!

Manufacturing

Manufacturing in Eumundi, Queensland we pride ourselves on the fact that our cutting boards have only two ingredients: Camphor Laurel & grape seed oil.  The Camphor laurel tree becomes a cutting board through the following process:

1. the camphor tree is cut down and sliced into slabs
2. the slabs are dried for 6-12 months depending on their moisture content at cutting
3. once the slabs reach about 15% moisture content they are placed into a kiln
4. the slabs are then kiln dried for 3 weeks to reduce the moisture content to 10-12%
5. each individual slab is then assessed to determine the best boards to cut out of the slab
6. each board is hand cut out of the slab and sanded
7. once sanded each board is hand sealed with 100% natural grape seed oil
8. the board is ready!

Nothing artificial or poisonous is added to our boards or manufacturing process (unlike other cutting boards)
